Each magical ingredient in this meal has a very specific purpose to either maximise your health or improve your body composition.
For instance, the cinnamon, olive oil and protein powder all work together to reduce your insulin response, which means even though this meal is loaded with berries and calories it does not act as a weight gain meal. You just get the health benefits of each ingredient.
Additionally the berries flood your body with red phenols that cause a cascade of positive reactions in your body that help with everything from gut health to aging better.
So here we go.
Ingredients:
- 5-8 tablespoons of plain yoghurt. I use greek or a plant based alternative.
- 1/4-1 cup of frozen berries. I like them semi thawed, and I add a large cup a cup of berries at breakfast but less if it is a dessert.
- 1/2-1 scoop of red phenol powder. I love this superfood powder and always have some in my cupboard, you can use a variety of brands, they are all pretty scrummy. I currently have a ‘Super Reds’ one from amazon.
- 1/2-1 scoop of protein or collagen powder. Vanilla flavor works well. I use vanilla Clean Lean Pea Protein, but whey protein has benefits too.
- 1/2- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon powder.
- A good sprinkle coconut flakes. Tip – keep them in the fridge for a crunchier texture.
- A good sprinkle of dried goji berries. These add an amazing chewy texture that I just can’t get enough of.
- 2 chocolate protein balls chopped up. It’s always good to have these balls at the ready in the fridge or freezer. Use my recipe from the Love Your Body Cookbook or there are some pretty clean supermarket brands, such as ‘Smooshies.” I usually use the balls for dessert and nuts at breakfast, when I’m not quite ready for a choc hit!
- A splash of good oil such as olive, hemp or flax.
- A good sprinkle of nuts are optional. Walnuts are a good one to enhance the health benefits of this meal.
- Sprinkle of cocoa powder optional
If there are any ingredients you aren’t keen on simply leave them out.
Method:
- Mix yoghurt, berry powder, cinnamon and protein powder together in a bowl. It should look creamy and smooth.
- Add berries and stir through.
- Sprinkle cacao powder, coconut flakes, nuts, goji berries, and chopped up power balls all over your yogurt mix.
- Finally add a splash of good oil and you are ready to chow down.
Quite possibly the most delicious health hit I have come up with yet. I’d Love to hear how your taste buds react after you try it!!!
I use variations this recipe, and am working on more recipes to bio-hack different reactions to occur in my body to maximize my health, performance and fitness so keep an eye out for more to come.
